Versatile Ghanaian rapper Edem , born Denning Edem Hotor has said that every artiste in the four shores of this country Ghana is hungry.
Making his assertions known on social media platform Twitter, the Ewe rapper deduce that, though most musicians will not admit to this simple fact, the truth remains that every artiste in Ghana is hungry and this is as a result of the failings in our systems.
“EVERY ARTISTE IN GHANA IS HUNGRY.SOME MIGHT JUST NOT SAY IT….LETS ALL DO SO THE WORLD KNOWS HOW OUR SYSTEM BE YAWA ABD IN THIS CORONA TIMES ARTISTES ARE SUFFERING #Gbevunation#9god#TRUTH“
However, CEO of Black Avenue Muzik, D-Black chose to differ a bit and said not all artistes are hungry. According to the hiphop artistes and CEO, most artistes like himself have been smart and invested in other areas that’s suppose to keep him afloat during hard times like the Covid19 pandemic.
“Not all… Some have made some smart investments bro. I haven’t had to depend on music only for over 4 years now bro.. It’s important for artists to use this situation as a reminder for the need to invest in your brand outside of art of music. It’s essential. Love g”
His point of view was however not accepted by Edem, who echoed his argument by saying, the music in itself is an investment which is supposed to pay the artiste for a long time.
“Bro …That’s where we make people get it wrong..The music should pay u the same way your investment is paying..if its not you are a hungry Artiste but a satisfied business man…If you get my drift”
In a related development, UK based Ghanaian artistes Reggie and Bullie are calling for an overhauling of the entire music system in Ghana. Speaking on a radio interview with Ola Michael on Neat FM some weeks ago, Reggie accused the managers of Ghana music as corrupt and incompetence and labeled them for being the reason why the system is so poor in Ghana.
On like other countries , Musicians are earning monies from their craft. Online platforms and radio stations pay musicians for playing their songs.
