Popular Nigerian female gospel musician, Osinachi Joseph known famously as Sinach has joined the millions of Nigerians calling for the total dissolvement of SARS(Special Anti-Robbery Squad) and anything related to it.
The Nigerian government in an attempt to curb and solve the problem of kidnapping, armed robberies and other crimes that had plagued the country, set up the Special Anti-robbery squad, known widely as SARS. It was set up in 1992 to serve as a deterrent to criminals and would-be criminals of the government determination to nip their operations in the bud.
But over the years, SARS have ironically gain the notoriety to perpetual murder, rape and other humane atrocities to the society they were enacted to protect. Nigerians all over the world rose to the occasion and called for the ban of SARS. The government after reneging for a while, gave in the demands of the protesters and dissolved the group. They IGP in a live broadcast revealed the individuals have been reassigned to different sectors of the police service and that, SWAT has been formed to replace SARS.
This however did not go well with the protesters who are now calling for the end of SWAT. They believe nothing has changed. The “Way Maker” singer has joined in the new crusade.
She posted on facebook ;- “Come on now !! NEPA changed to PHCN = SARS changed to SWAT . It’s all about the system #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria #EndPoliceBrutalityNigeria #ReformTheNigerianPolice #EndSARS #valuethehumanlife #Naija@60
