‘Lionheart’ a movie directed by Nigerians movie actress, now director, Genevieve Nnaji has been disqualified by the Oscar Acadamy from the Best International feature film category.

The movie which was Nigeria’s first-ever submission in that category by a Nigerian was partially in the Igbo language and largely in English.

Lionheart was not qualified to be in that category because of its being largely spoken in English.

According to the rules, entries in that category must have “a predominantly non-English dialogue track”, even though the rules failed to see the effect of colonization on most African countries.

Reacting to her movies disqualification, Genevieve Nnaji wrote

“Lionheart,” in which Nnaji plays a woman who tries to keep her father’s struggling company afloat in a male-dominated environment, is currently available on Netflix.
