Veteran Ghanaian musician, Rex Omar, known for his popular songs such as ‘abiba’ and ‘obi do ba’, has called on the board and the organizers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to uphold the ban placed on dancehall artistes Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

The two artistes suffered indefinitely suspension from the awards after Stonebwoy allegedly pulled a gun on stage while receiving an award last year.

It was argued that the ‘kpokeke’ hitmaker was provoked upon seeing his then rival approaching the stage.

Anyway, stakeholders in the industry have been calling for their ban to be revoke with some stating the awards will lack it needed excitement when the two are not involved.

Rex Omar, however seems to have a different opinion.

According to the veteran musician, the two artistes are not bigger than Ghana’s music industry.

He stated that the industry is guided by rules and after their brawl at the 2019 VGMAs, the ban should serve as a deterrent to other artistes.

“They are not bigger than the industry…if we allow them to be bigger than the industry, then we don’t have an industry, forget it. Principles must stand.”

Rex Omar said the ban on the two must continue to serve the purpose for which it was handed.
